Does it Get Better?

Yes, it does! A short backstory, when I had my baby, I did not have practical experience. I have never worn a diaper for a baby, you can imagine how clueless I was. I had read a lot and watched enough videos before meeting my baby.

I am the type that reads a lot, so that was not even a problem, but the real practical? I did not have the knowledge. When my baby came, I had someone with me, she had this experience, so it was not a big deal for her. Plus. I was recovering.

When we got home and my mother-in-law came over (may her soul rest in peace), she took over everything, including bathing me and the baby, She would dress the baby up and do everything while I watched. After a few days, I started learning from her.

The first time I dressed my baby, it was difficult, I was so scared of breaking his fragile arms, tiny feet, and all, for diapers, I was scared of his umbilical cord and all. I started taking it one step at a time, if there was a mistake, she would correct me. I think the most difficult thing at that point was bathing the baby. The fear of putting water in his nostrils and ears, and the fear of him falling.

I started bathing him when she was about to leave. The first time was difficult, it was under supervision. She left about two days later, and then my mom came over, and they had a discussion about whether she should not help me bathe the baby so I could get used to it.

Well, throughout my mom’s stay, I could count the number of times she bathed the baby, I was doing it, she only supervised for a few days, but helped with other chores. She left, and I was left to care for the bay after forty days.

Does it really get better?

Trust me, it was rough from the onset catching up, managing many tasks, and having a lot to do. But it got better! Also, with the contribution of my husband, we’re navigating pretty well. It is still overwhelming, my baby is now a toddler, a new phase with a lot of work, but I am here to tell you things get better.

I don’t need anyone to tell me, I know I am doing a good job!

Are you starting a new role? Learning a new skill? starting afresh and things are rough, it looks like you don’t know what you are doing, you are not sure you will ever get better at it? I am here to tell you to just hang in there, keep doing what you are doing, and be consistent. With time, you will look back and be proud of how far you have come.

For some people, they are currently navigating relocation, for others, it is the early years of marriage, for some, it is academic, for some, it is a new role, it could be anything! You might be wondering if things get better.
Yes! It does! Do not relent, and keep pushing. I know you get my message, now hang in there and let me tell you things get better!
